The term
“sinner” can be translated to different meanings in different languages.
In English, we describe the term as “missing the mark” or “falling
short”, or maybe
to mean “less than perfect”. In Japanese, “sinner” is translated to the
word for criminal.
With all the different translations and nuances in different languages, it can
be difficult
to understand the concept of sin as described in the Holy Bible.
Sin, in its proper context, means to be separated from
God. All of mankind is
born in this state of sin, or separation from God. It is passed on from
generation
to generation in much the same way as our genetic characteristics are passed on.
This is the reason that being a good person or doing good things doesn’t make
us any less of a sinner. This is also the reason that one person cannot be a
worse
sinner than somebody else. We are either separated from God, or we are joined
with God.
There is no middle ground.
God, seeing His beloved creation in this hopeless state of
sin, had a plan that
would allow us to be rejoined with Him in an everlasting relationship. He sent
His one and only Son, Jesus, to be the sacrifice for our sins, that whoever
believes
in Jesus, will no longer be separated from God, but will become a part of
God’s family.
You see, in order for us to live physically, something has
to die. If we eat meat,
fish, or chicken for our sustenance, then one of these animals had to die. If we
eat vegetables for our sustenance, then the plant or a portion of the plant had
to die so that we could survive.
Our spiritual survival is no different. In order for us to be sustained
spiritually, then something had to die. God loved us so much, that He did
not even spare His own Son so that we could pass from condemnation and
death into God’s mercy, forgiveness, and everlasting life.
How then, can we establish this relationship with God? Believe that
Jesus is the Son of God; that He died on the cross in your place,
rose from the dead on the third day, and is alive today.
This alone
is the qualifying factor to be joined with God. You may have a very
emotional experience, or just make the logical choice to believe in
Jesus as described in the Holy Bible. Either way, we invite you to join us
in the Family of God.
