IMI Reports
April 2005
We have made 2 trips to Tokashiki Island, and have made contact with one (and maybe the only) Christian on the island. We have provided fellowship for our isolated brother, and have sought his advice for evangelizing the islanders. The people living on the outer islands grow different crops and share them with each other instead of selling them.

Tokashiki Village, Population 200? One
of 3 villages on
the island. Total population is about 700.

Making Friends on Tokashiki. We found that the lack
of
markets and stores on the island cause people to do
without, or catch the ferry to do their shopping, and
then lug everything back to the island. Hence, we will
soon organize volunteers to shop for the residents,
and we will deliver their goods via the Seiya Maru.

Alters for ancestor worship on
Tokashiki. Ancestor
worship is one of the major challenges to the Gospel
in this area. Those who stop this practice are quickly
disowned by their families.

Left: Cap'n Billy; Right: Brother Nori; Center:
Brother Nakamura, currently the only
known Christian on Tokashiki Island. Brother Nakamura is spending about $200
every week to travel to Okinawa via ferry, get a taxi, stay in a hotel,
attend church the next day, and return to his island again via ferry. A good
guess
would be that this is nearly half of his monthly income. His faith in God will
astound you. With his permission, we will publish his testimony in the near
future.
